Fertilizing, getting the right soil level
All fertilizers provide a NPK value, which is very important for using the right type of fertilizer in the right season. N is chemical denomination for nitrogenous, P for phosphorus and K for potassium, these substances have special functions which will be used for Bonsai (N (Nitrogenous) = General growth of the tree P (Phosphorus) = Promotes the development of buds and fruits. K (Potassium) = Very important for making trees hardy for the winter.)
A common error is to fertilize an unhealthy tree, believing undernourishment to be the problem. Trees seldom die of starvation, but a problem with the root system will be made worse by fertilizing, and the tree will only die more quickly. Never fertilize a sick tree. In these cases is important to feed him some hormone and vitamin products that can sometimes help stimulate a tree to recovery and are safe to use.
Ehen talking about fertilizing, two questions come to our mind:
• When to fertilize
Normally fertilizing can be done from the early spring season until autumn. Firm fertilizers can be applied monthly, liquid fertilizer weekly. Best is to use firm fertilizer for the ground, and liquid fertilizer for the leaves.
• How to fertilize
A tree must not be fertilized until two months after it was repotted. Young trees who will be styled soon can be fertilized more, or more often (when the plants are in active growth). Use the right NPK value of fertilizer in the right time of year.
Obs.
• As a rule, always water your tree before fertilizing. Do not fertilize weak or freshly repotted trees, and don’t over-fertilize!
• If your summers are extremely hot and your trees are outdoors, do not fertilize until temperatures have moderated and growth has resumed.
• Do not feed trees in winter when they are either dormant or growth has slowed down
